Diwali Guidelines / Rules Ignored, Crackers Roared Past 9 PM

Key Points
Bhubaneswar, Oct 20: As the Festival of Lights illuminated homes and streets across Odisha, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack witnessed both festive fervor and regulatory breaches during Diwali night.
In anticipation of the celebrations, local police had issued strict guidelines permitting the bursting of firecrackers only between 7 PM and 9 PM. The directive, aimed at minimizing noise pollution and ensuring public safety, was enforced by patrolling teams across all police station limits. Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena had instructed officers to remain vigilant, warning that violators would face legal action.
The guidelines also mandated the use of only green crackers, banning high-decibel fireworks. Additionally, individuals found intoxicated and driving or loitering on roads faced vehicle seizure and arrest.

Visuals from various neighborhoods showed sporadic instances of non-compliance, raising concerns over enforcement and public awareness.
Police officials have indicated that action will be taken against those found guilty of breaching the Diwali safety protocols.
