Rukuna Rath Yatra Today: Thousands Gather To Witness Divine Journey Of Lord Lingaraja

Bhubaneswar, Apr 5: Thousands of devotees have gathered to witness the famous Rukuna Rath Yatra of Lord Lingaraja in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, which is all set to commence today.

This annual festival, celebrated on Ashokastami, is a significant event in Odisha's spiritual calendar, drawing thousands of devotees from across the region.

The procession features the majestic chariot of Lord Lingaraja, known as 'Analeuta,' which does not take any turns during its journey—a unique aspect of this festival.

The day began with elaborate rituals at the Lingaraja Temple. It will be then followed by the ceremonial 'Pahandi' procession, where the deities will ascend to the beautifully decorated chariot.

The chariot pulling, a highlight of the festival, will commence at around 3:30 PM, with devotees enthusiastically participating in the journey to the Rameshwar Temple.

The festival is not only a spiritual celebration but also a showcase of Odisha's rich cultural heritage.

Extensive arrangements have been made by the temple administration and Commissionerate Police for smooth functioning of the Rukuna Rath Yatra.

As many as 16 Platoons of police force has been deployed for the drawing of the Rukuna rath. Other related arrangements have also been made by the police to control the heat wave which include distributing water, providing fans to the devotees, ambulance service, etc.

Restrictions have been imposed by the Commissionerate Police on vehicular movement for Lord Lingaraja’s Rukuna Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra.
