Rourkela, Apr 20: A protest against the construction of a railway line by the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) turned fatal on Saturday when a young villager tragically lost his life after being struck by an earthmover. Later, enraged over the death of the youth, the villagers continue to protest after placing the dead body.

Villagers from Barkani have placed the body at the construction site as part of their demonstration.

The incident occurred in Barkani village, where locals have been opposing the project, citing unresolved compensation claims and lack of proper consultation.

The situation escalated as enraged villagers clashed with police and administrative officials at the site. Reports indicate that several police personnel and government officials sustained injuries during the violent confrontation.

Protesters accused authorities of forcibly proceeding with the construction without addressing their grievances.

The deceased’s body remained at the site for hours as villagers demanded justice, compensation for the victim's family, and accountability for the incident.
