Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: The Commissionerate police have begun a special drive to check sound pollution with use of high-decibel awkward sound creating horns by vehicles in Bhubaneswar.
On the first day, the traffic wing of the Commissionerate police found 40 passenger buses using horns of high decibel sound, flouting the road safety norms. More than Rs 30,000 was collected as fine from the buses, informed Traffic ACP Umakanta Pradhan.
Checks were conducted at Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Nayapalli and Rasulgarh Squares, said Pradhan.  
The traffic police had earlier taken action against rough bike riders. More than 100 motorcycles were seized and a large sum of fines collected. Pollution creating silencer pipes were dismantled from bikes, said Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra.
On the advice of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the Commissionerate police have started enforcement of road safety law in the city. People have been advised to call police dialing 112 to inform about violators of traffic rules.
