Bhubaneswar, July 4: Heavy downpour on Thursday triggered severe waterlogging in the low-lying areas of Laxmisagar and Sabar Sahi, causing considerable distress to residents.
Follwing this, Municipal authorities swiftly initiated emergency measures to tackle the situation.
Acting under the directives of the Commissioner, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) team, in coordination with the Water Resources Department, undertook immediate action.
To facilitate quick drainage of rainwater, the BMC team breached portions of the Daya West Canal and Drain No. 6, allowing floodwaters to be released efficiently.
Waterlogging in the upper region of Ward No. 45 (WN-45) was attributed to blockages in the siphon system and encroachments around Drain-6. To resolve this, both banks of the Daya West Canal were cut at strategic points to drain accumulated water.
Municipal officials have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel through affected areas as restoration efforts continue.
