Cuttack, Apr 4: In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken charge of the investigation into the rescue of a Bangladeshi minor girl from the Madhupatna area of Cuttack, Odisha.
The case, which has uncovered a disturbing human trafficking ring, will soon be presented in the NIA court.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs instructed NIA to take over the case on March 13, 2025. Subsequently, the agency registered Case Number RC 6/2025 and officially began its probe on March 21, 2025.
The girl, who was rescued on November 31, 2024, was allegedly brought to Odisha under the false pretence of employment. However, investigations revealed her forced involvement in illicit activities, including sexual exploitation.
Following her rescue, the police arrested six individuals connected to the trafficking operation.
The NIA aims to delve deeper into the cross-border trafficking network and bring the culprits to justice. The case highlights the urgent need for stricter measures to combat human trafficking and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals, especially women and children.
