Ganjam, Sep 26: In a dramatic incident highlighting the challenges of flood-hit villages, a rescue boat carrying officials to save a pregnant woman overturned in the strong current of a river at Tadama village under Baibali panchayat in Bhanjanagar block.
The pregnant woman, identified as Arati Goud, had gone into labor on Friday morning. Her family immediately informed the administration, prompting a rescue team comprising the BDO, CDPO, and fire service personnel to rush to the spot.
However, as the boat attempted to cross the swollen river, it capsized due to the fierce current. Fortunately, all members of the rescue team escaped unharmed.

✨Meanwhile, the medical team could not reach the village in time. In a desperate situation, Arati delivered a baby girl at home without medical assistance. Despite the ordeal, both mother and newborn are reported safe.
Continuous rainfall has swollen rivers across Ganjam,
cutting off several villages from medical facilities. Locals lament that even
today, development has not reached certain areas, forcing residents to cross
flooded rivers to access healthcare.
