Renewable Energy and Textiles: Odisha, Spain Unite for Strategic Industrial Collaborations

Bhubaneswar, Apr 19: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Saturday, met with Spain’s Ambassador to India, Juan Antonio March Pujol, at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

The discussion centred around fostering strategic collaborations in key industries, including renewable energy, metallurgy, textiles, and automobiles.

CM Majhi underscored Odisha’s emergence as one of India’s fastest-growing states and a favoured destination for sustainable and forward-looking investments.

In response, Ambassador Pujol praised Odisha’s vibrant industrial ecosystem and expressed Spain’s strong interest in establishing long-term, technology-driven partnerships.

Key sectors discussed during the meeting included:

Metallurgy and Refractory Solutions: Odisha’s mineral-rich landscape and established steel clusters were highlighted, including the recent ₹90 crore investment by TIMAB Magnesium India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of French-Spanish Groupe Roullier, which is setting up a refractory manufacturing unit in Khordha to create over 300 jobs.

Renewable Energy: Odisha’s ambitious Renewable Energy Policy was showcased, urging Spanish firms like Siemens Gamesa, Acciona, and Iberdrola to explore investments in solar parks, offshore wind projects, and green hydrogen initiatives. Floating solar and energy storage technologies were identified as areas ripe for collaboration.

Textiles and Apparel: CM Majhi invited renowned Spanish brands such as ZARA, Desigual, and Mango to explore opportunities in Odisha’s integrated textile parks. The state's skilled workforce and proactive policies were presented as key advantages for sourcing hubs and innovation centers.

This meeting reaffirmed Odisha's dedication to building impactful industrial, technological, and cultural ties with Spain, paving the way for mutually beneficial partnerships and bolstering economic growth.

Among those present were Additional Chief Secretary to CM, Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahoo, and Additional Chief Secretary (Industry) Hemant Kumar Sharma.
