Bhawanipatna, May 19: Continuing its crackdown on corrupt state government employees, the Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday unearthed huge assets during simultaneous house searches at properties linked to a senior official of Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division, Bhawanipatna, under the Works Department of the Government of Odisha. The searches were conducted over allegations of accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income, officials said.

“On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, simultaneous house searches were conducted on the properties of Bhubaneswar Sabar, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the R&B Division, Bhawanipatana, on Tuesday at multiple places in Kalahandi district,” vigilance sources said.

Scale of the Operation

The operation was carried out by 6 DSPs, 8 Inspectors, and supporting staff, under search warrants issued by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatana. Multiple premises in Bhawanipatana and Kokasara were raided, revealing extensive immovable properties linked to the officer and his family.

Properties Seized

Preliminary findings highlight a staggering list of assets:

• Multi-storey houses: Four double-storey houses, including a 4,500 sq. ft residence in Bhawanipatana and others in Kokasara.
• Market complex: A 2,214 sq. ft complex with eight shop cabins at Moter Chhak, Kokasara.
• Farmhouse: A sprawling 9-acre farmhouse near Kitpadar, Bhawanipatana.
• Land plots: Documents for 33 plots totaling nearly 39.64 acres across Bhawanipatana and Kokasara.

Ongoing Investigation

Officials said, the total valuation of seized assets may rise further as verification and assessment continue. Vigilance sources emphasized that the crackdown is part of a broader effort to curb corruption and disproportionate wealth among government officials.
