The deceased was identified as Kailash Chandra Sahu from Bissam Cuttack. Sahu's wife Shanti Lata Sahu, had died about 15 years ago. The couple had two sons — Rama Chandra Sahu, aged 29, and Shyam Sundar Sahu, aged 26.
According to the source, the incident took place on January 30 at around 4:30pm at the family’s residence, triggering panic in the locality.
As per the FIR, Kailash Chandra Sahu had been engaged in lending money on a loan basis. Police stated that borrowers were not returning the loan amounts, which led to frequent arguments between him and his younger son, Shyam Sundar Sahu. The relationship between the father and son was described as strained.
Police said that on the day of the incident, Shyam Sundar Sahu found his father alone in the courtyard of the lower portion of the house. He allegedly mixed acid, kept at the house for cleaning latrines, with a cold drink and gave it to his father to consume. After drinking it, Kailash Chandra Sahu reportedly went to a wash basin in an attempt to vomit.
The FIR stated that the accused then assaulted his father repeatedly on the head with a sharp weapon. When the victim fell to the floor and tried to sit up, the accused allegedly slit his throat with the same weapon, causing his death on the spot.
Police said the accused later raised an alarm, following which residents gathered. The body was taken to Christian Hospital at Bissam Cuttack, where doctors declared Kailash dead.
