Rayagada college students protest after NCC personnel allegedly overstayed hostel stay, entered girls’ quarters without permission, locked rooms, disrupted water supply, and made obscene gestures, sparking safety concerns and agitation.

Rayagada, Oct 4: Serious allegations have surfaced against NCC personnel at Amalabhata Model Degree College in Rayagada, after students accused them of overstaying in the hostel and misbehaving with girl boarders.

According to reports, an NCC team had camped at the college from September 21 to 29. However, even four days after the camp ended, the personnel allegedly refused to vacate the hostel.

More disturbingly, students claimed that two NCC staff forcibly entered the girls’ hostel on Gandhi Jayanti, locked rooms, and made obscene gestures.

The incident triggered strong protests, with hundreds of girl students staging demonstrations on Saturday. “The camp on the upper floor of the hostel must be shut immediately. NCC staff entered without permission and locked rooms on the third floor,” one agitating student said.

Students further alleged that the personnel disrupted hostel facilities by cutting off water supply and throwing dustbins around, leaving boarders without drinking water. The actions, they said, created severe inconvenience and raised safety concerns.

College authorities had directed the NCC team to vacate the hostel after the camp ended on September 29.

Yet, their continued presence has sparked outrage among students, who insist that their safety is at risk. Protesters warned that the agitation would continue until the NCC personnel leave the hostel premises.

Students also pointed out that NCC staff are required to seek permission from wardens or supervisors before entering the hostel, a protocol they allegedly ignored.
