Ration Card Fraud In Odisha: People Were Collecting Ration In The Names Of Deceased, Says Food Supplies Minister

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra has revealed a stunning fact saying people were collecting rations in the names of the deceased.
Responding to a question in writing at the ongoing Odisha Legislative Assembly session, the Food Supplies Minister said that ineligible people were using as many as 3,28,932 ration cards to collect ration.
The owner of the rations cards are already deceased, thus the Odisha Govt has excluded the deceased. The decision was taken after the after the e-KYC process by the state government.
As per the report, Keonjhar has most number of such cases in Odisha with ration cards of 35,550 deceased were in use, while 25,789 in Ganjam, 23,799 in Mayurbhanj and 22,411 in Rayagada.
In addition, the Food Supplies Minister, responding to another question, revealed that as many as 16,184 families were issued ration cards despite their ineligibility. The 61,184 families include 61,822 members, who had been issued Ration Cards.
“They were identified and excluded from the Ration Card list under various criteria,” said Minister Patra at the Assembly.
