The Maharana servitors have identified 40‑foot axles, and routine load‑carrying capacity checks are being conducted. The inspection is being supervised by core committee member N.C. Axle and Wheel Preparations
In the first phase, technical checks were carried out on the main axles, side axles, and brake axles. Meanwhile, the construction of 42 wheels for the three chariots has been completed, allowing the assembly of the massive wooden platforms to begin. Timber required for axle construction has already been processed, and carpentry work for the chariot bases is underway.
Structural Assembly
At the Bhui Chautara, servitors have started binding the khambis (vertical posts) with pakhuda, marking the beginning of structural assembly. In the temporary blacksmith’s workshop, Ojha Maharana servitors are preparing iron nails and spikes for the dandas (support beams). Work on the gargara kanta has also commenced, followed by the crafting of nahaka, gayala, chhanda gayala, and jhokha kanta - all essential fittings for the chariots.
Officials stated that the Rathkhala follows a phased construction schedule, with each component — from wheels to axles, posts, and fittings - undergoing inspection before assembly. The Works Department will issue a final certification once all parts are verified, ensuring the chariots are fit for the massive procession.
With the countdown underway, the Rathkhala resonates with the sound of chisels, hammers, and chants, as servitors and artisans work tirelessly to prepare the sacred chariots that will carry Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra during the world‑famous Rath Yatra.
