Bhubaneswar, Jul 1: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Sunday met the grieving family of Premakanta Mohanty, a resident of Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar, who tragically lost his life during the stampede at the Rath Yatra.

 

The minister personally handed over financial assistance to the bereaved family as part of the government’s compensation policy.

 

In a separate development, Minister Pujari chaired a high-level emergency meeting at Rajiv Bhavan to assess the state’s preparedness in light of the evolving flood situation. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Water Resources Department and the Disaster Management Authority.

The review comes amid rising water levels in several rivers due to heavy rainfall in catchment areas. Districts like Balasore and Mayurbhanj have been placed on high alert, with ODRAF and Fire Services teams already deployed in vulnerable zones.
