Bhubaneswar, Jun 15: As preparations for the grand Rath Yatra in Puri gain momentum, the Odisha government has announced stringent security measures to ensure a smooth and disciplined festival.
Following last year’s controversy involving the unauthorized boarding of chariots, the administration has reinforced regulations to prevent any disruptions during the world-famous chariot festival.
Strict restrictions will be imposed, including a complete ban on unauthorized servitors climbing the chariots, with violators facing arrest. Mobile phone usage on the chariots will also be prohibited. The lists of designated servitors for key rituals, including Pahandi (ceremonial procession) and Ghantuas (Servitors who beat Ghants), have been finalized in advance to maintain order.
The police have introduced several new surveillance measures for crowd and traffic management, including the establishment of an Integrated Command Control Center in Puri’s Town Police Station. CCTV surveillance will extend from Uttara Square to Puri and further to Konark, with AI-powered cameras tracking crowd density and traffic flow. Additionally, advisory alerts will be issued from the control room for public safety.
