Paradip, Apr 9: Seventeen Telia Fish, which is a rare species, was sold at Rs 6,400 per kg for a total of Rs 18 lakh in an auction at Paradip on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, a few fishermen from Paradip area had ventured into the sea Monday night when a huge number of the rare fish fell in the fishing net. 

 A total of 17 fish, weighing more than three quintal, were caught.

The fishermen later took it to the auction area and the fish were sold at a whooping Rs 18 lakh, said reports.

The intestines of the rare Telia fish is sold at high prices because it is used to manufacture drugs. Telia fish also contains a lot of maw, from which drugs are made which can also be sold abroad.
