Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: A shocking error in the evaluation process at Rajendra University has triggered widespread discontent among students of Sonepur Raj College.

Reports allege that several history honours students received marks exceeding the maximum limit — with some awarded 101 out of 100 and 61 out of 60.

Alongside these anomalies, students also complained that their internal marks had been drastically reduced. While colleges had submitted internal scores out of 40, many students were reportedly given only 18 or 20 marks, raising serious questions about transparency and fairness in the evaluation system.

The issue came to light when the Deputy Controller of Examinations visited the college on Tuesday. Students confronted him with their grievances, alleging not only irregularities in marks but also intimidation when they raised concerns. According to students, they were threatened instead of being assured of corrective measures.

The controversy has sparked anger among the student community, who are demanding immediate rectification of the errors. They argue that such mistakes could have long-term consequences on their academic records and future opportunities.

College authorities, however, acknowledged awareness of the issue. The principal confirmed that the matter has already been reported to the university administration. “We are aware of the discrepancies and have informed the university authorities,” he stated, assuring that corrective steps would follow.

This is not the first time such incidents occurred in the state. Similar cases of marks discrepancies had been reported multiple times earlier across the state. This incident highlights the urgent need for stricter monitoring of examination and evaluation processes.
