Badamba, Jun 18: In a deeply distressing incident during the festive Raja celebrations, a family in Badamba’s Badabarasingha village was struck by tragedy after a suspected poisoning linked to a domestic dispute. The incident has left two women dead and one man critically injured.

According to police sources, 29-year-old Sangeeta Senapati and her 55-year-old mother-in-law Nibasi Senapati allegedly consumed poison following a heated family altercation. Sangeeta’s husband, Bhagirathi Senapati, also reportedly ingested the substance and is currently undergoing treatment at Badamba Medical Centre.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night, casting a pall over the village during what is typically a time of joy and festivity. Locals were shocked to learn of the deaths, especially as the family had no known history of severe conflict.

Police from Badamba station have registered two cases of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. Forensic teams have collected samples from the scene, and statements from neighbours and relatives are being recorded.

Initial reports suggest that a long-standing family dispute may have escalated, prompting the drastic step. However, authorities are not ruling out other possibilities and are awaiting the medical report of the survivor for further clarity.

The incident has sparked conversations around mental health, family counselling, and the need for stronger community support systems in rural areas.
