The Odisha government's claim of providing free health services under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana is no reality in the case of an elderly woman patient in Belapani village under Rairakhol Assembly constituency.

Rairakhol, Apr 22: The Odisha government's claim of providing free health services under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) is no reality in the case of an elderly woman patient in Belapani village under Rairkhol Assembly constituency.

It is so understood from the fact that the woman of a remote village was carried on a cot to the hospital as the ambulance could not reach her village due to lack of a motorable road. The people who shouldered her cot had to cross a river and a canal to reach the hospital. However, she could not be provided proper treatment at the government hospital for which the family members brought back her to their house. She is fighting for her life now.

Meanwhile, villagers expressed anger over the lack of treatment at the government hospital.

"The poor woman's condition is a glaring example of rural Sambalpur. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, VK Pandian and Sambalpur BJD candidate Pranab Prakash Das, who are star campaigners of the BJD from the top in chronological order, should see to the woman's condition before making any claim," said villagers.

They said the government has failed to provide them with a motorable road and other basic facilities in the last 24 years of rule.
