Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: A well-marked low-pressure area that had formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha coast has weakened as of 5:30 am on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system is now moving in a west-northwest direction and is expected to advance toward Chhattisgarh within the next 24 hours.

✨The IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for multiple regions, advising residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Farmers have been urged to take preventive measures to protect standing crops, as persistent rainfall could lead to waterlogging and damage.
This weather development comes at a time when Odisha is already grappling with the aftermath of recent floods in districts like Balasore and Jajpur. The weakened system may not pose a severe threat, but its lingering effects could exacerbate existing challenges in vulnerable areas.
As the system moves toward Chhattisgarh, neighboring states
may also experience moderate to heavy rainfall. The IMD continues to track the
movement and intensity of the system to provide timely updates.
