Puri, Feb 28: The 9th National Health Conclave got underway Friday in Puri after the event was inaugurated by the Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The two-day event will conclude Saturday.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, state Health Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aswathy S , Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Puri Lok Sabha MP Sambit Patra, National Health Mission (NHM) Managing Director Aradhana Patnaik and NHM Joint Secretary Saurabh Jain are also in attendance.

There will be a review of various schemes implemented in the India’s health sector, their implementation, upcoming plans, infrastructure, and new innovations. The conference will witness discussions on how the health schemes can be implemented in different states in the coming days.

Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the event, Odisha Health Minister Mahaling said that medical needs will be fulfilled under IPHS (Indian Public Health Standards) norm.

“The vacancies of doctors’ and paramedics’ posts in the state will be filled within two years. All the hospital needs will be filled under the IPHS norm,” stated Mahaling.

What is IPHS norm?

IPHS norms are a set of standards envisaged to improve the quality of health care delivery in the country under the National Rural Health Mission. Although, the health care system in India has expanded considerably over the last few decades, the quality of services is not uniform due to various reasons like non-availability of manpower, problem of access, acceptability, lack of community involvement, etc. Hence, standards are being introduced in order to improve the quality of public health level.
