Puri, June 8: The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards transforming Puri into a dedicated pilgrim city.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has announced that all liquor shops and bars within a two-kilometer radius of the revered Jagannath Temple will be shut down. Additionally, meat sales along the Grand Road (Bada Danda) will also be prohibited. These measures aim to enhance the spiritual sanctity of the region.

Along with these restrictions, plans are in place to standardize the height of all buildings along the Grand Road and alter the architectural facade of structures facing the Grand Road. Preliminary work on these reforms has already begun, according to Minister Harichandan.

Meanwhile, ahead of the auspicious Snana Purnima festival on June 11, Puri Police has issued a traffic advisory to manage the influx of devotees. Starting from the evening of June 10, four-wheelers will be restricted from entering the stretch between Medical Square and the Jagannath Temple. Alternative parking arrangements have been made, including designated spots in the Municipality Market Complex for two-wheelers.
