Puri, June 29: In the aftermath of the tragic stampede near the Gundicha Temple during the Rath Yatra in Puri, the Odisha government has initiated swift administrative action by transferring two top district officials.
While Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain and Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal have been transferred, the government has placed Chanchal Rana as the new Collector of Puri, and Pinak Mishra as the new SP.
In addition, two police officers, DCP Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhy were suspended for their alleged negligence in crowd management.

✨The decision comes shortly after Chief Minister Majhi publicly apologised for what he called an “unforgivable” lapse, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and promising strict accountability.
The tragedy, which claimed three lives, has prompted a wider investigation into lapses in planning, crowd control, and emergency response preparedness. The reshuffle is being viewed as the first major step toward institutional accountability.
