As per the tradition, the ceremonial Pahandi Bije of the deities commenced with Lord Sudarshan being brought out first, followed by the majestic arrival of Devi Subhadra. The divine atmosphere grew more electrified as Lord Balabhadra was carried in a grand procession to his chariot, accompanied by chants, music, and overflowing devotion. At last, Lord Jagannath was escorted to the chariot.
And then the Chhera Pahanra ritual will be performed. The ritual is scheduled to take place this afternoon between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
In this sacred tradition, the Gajapati King of Puri, regarded as the foremost servitor of Lord Jagannath, sweeps the platforms of the three chariots with a golden broom and sprinkles sandalwood-scented water. This act of royal humility signifies that in the eyes of the divine, all are equal — whether king or commoner.
Only after this, the chariots will then be pulled by devotees, marking the official commencement of the divine journey to the Gundicha Temple.
The Chhera Pahanra is not just a ritual — it’s a powerful message of service, surrender, and spiritual equality.
On the other hand, the Grand Road of Puri (Badadanda) is soaked not just in monsoon drizzle, but in waves of emotion as crores of devotees throng the holy town, eager for a rare, soul-stirring glimpse of Lord Jagannath.
