Puri, Jun 16: The construction of the three grand chariots for the upcoming Rath Yatra is progressing rapidly at the Ratha Khala, with over 200 skilled artisans working tirelessly to ensure timely completion.
It’s been 47 days since the construction works of chariots commenced. With the grand festival is on the horizon – June 27, the final stages of woodwork, carving, and fittings are underway.
Intricate Craftsmanship & Final Touches
The first phase of Potala setting has been completed, and the 13-layer Potala structure is being assembled step by step. The wooden beams and decorative carvings for the chariots are also in their final stages, with artisans meticulously engraving Rahu Rupa and Kandarpa Rupa designs on 32 wooden wheels.
Meanwhile, Ojha servitors have completed the Naaraj Kanta fitting for the chariots, ensuring structural integrity. The Jangha Kanta work continues, reinforcing the chariot’s framework. Additionally, Darji servitors are engaged in cutting and lace fitting for the decorative canopy.
Preparations for the Grand Festival
The Rath Yatra, scheduled to begin on June 27, is one of the most significant Hindu festivals, drawing millions of devotees from across the world.
The three chariots — Nandighosha (Lord Jagannath), Taladhwaja (Lord Balabhadra), and Darpadalana (Devi Subhadra) — are newly built each year, reflecting the rich tradition and devotion of the Jagannath culture.
