Puri, Jun 25: In a proactive step to ensure smooth conduct of the annual Rath Yatra, the Odisha police conducted a comprehensive mock drill.
The drill aimed to familiarise the force with the protocols involved in drawing the three sacred chariots—symbolically represented by three police jeeps named Taladhwaja, Nandighosha, and Debadalana.
The practice drill was conducted in a phased manner, beginning with the deployment of the clearance team, followed by the dragging team, and then the cordon team.
Each unit was strategically positioned to mirror the security arrangements that will be put in place during the actual event.
Senior police officials, including officers in charge of chariot duties, Additional Director Generals (ADGs), and magistrates, oversaw the drill.
Briefings were provided to all participants regarding command coordination from atop the chariots, and flag signals were used to simulate real-time movement instructions.
This exercise is part of a series of preparations to ensure the safety and coordination of one of India’s largest and most revered religious festivals.
