Puri, Jun 16: A suspicious death in Odisha's Puri district triggered allegations of murder on Tuesday, with the family of the deceased claiming he was deliberately made to consume excessive alcohol before being abandoned near his home.

The incident was reported from Harijan Sahi in Bentapur village under Brahmagiri police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Chaila Gochhayat.

Family Alleges Planned Murder
According to a complaint lodged by the deceased's son, Chandan Gochhayat, two individuals allegedly took his father away from their house on Monday night.

The family alleged that Chaila was deliberately made to consume an excessive quantity of alcohol and was later brought back in an unconscious condition.

As per the complaint, the two men allegedly left him near his house late at night before fleeing the spot.

Found Unconscious, Later Died
Family members found Chaila lying unconscious and rushed to assist him. However, he later died, prompting relatives to suspect foul play.

The deceased's family termed the incident a planned murder and demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.

Police Launch Probe
On being informed, Brahmagiri police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The body was seized and sent for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said the exact cause of death is yet to be established and that all angles, including the allegations made by the family, are being examined.

With the family alleging murder and the cause of death yet to be confirmed, the incident has generated considerable discussion in the Brahmagiri area.
