Puri, Apr 12: The Chief Administrator of Puri Jagannath Temple, Arbinda Kumar Padhee, has reviewed the restoration efforts for the Shree Mandir Ratna Bhandar.
Sharing updates via his X account, Padhee highlighted the advancements in the repair and preservation work undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in collaboration with the local administration.
“Reviewed the conservation and repair works of the Ratna Bhandar at Shree Mandir with officials from the ASI, Puri circle,” wrote Padhee in his post.
Old, damaged iron beams have been replaced with five new stainless steel box beams to strengthen its interior framework. Outside, aged and broken stones have been removed, and freshly quarried stones have been seamlessly installed.
“The inner conservation works of the Bhitara Ratna Bhandar are nearly complete, except the floor renovation. Precise installation of five SS (stainless steel) box beams inside the inner chamber has been a significant achievement,” the post reads further.
Key restoration tasks include repairs to the outer façade of the Ratna Bhandar and plaster removal from the walls of the Jagmohan and Ratna Bhandar area. Damaged stones in these locations are being replaced with sturdy new ones to ensure the structure's stability.
“The renovation and replacement of damaged stone members in the Bahara Ratna Bhandar are also nearing completion, along with exterior structural conservation works (de-plastering near the junction between Jagamohana Pidha stones and outer structure of Ratna Bhandar, with replacement of damaged porous stone blocks),” Padhee informed.
The Chief Administrator expressed optimism about completing the renovations before the upcoming Rath Yatra, ensuring safety and preserving the architectural grandeur of the temple for future generations.
“Given the sensitive nature of Ratna Bhandar conservation, meticulous attention and execution are crucial. We hope the ASI will successfully complete this ambitious project before the ensuing Ratha Yatra. SJTA will continue to provide full support,” wrote the Chief Administrator of Puri Shree Mandir.
