Puri Jagannath Temple Prepares For Nabajouban Darshan After Anasara Period

Puri, Jun 14: The annual Snana Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra was observed with great devotion at the Jagannath Temple in Puri. As part of the ritual, the deities were bathed with 108 pots of fragrant water drawn from the temple’s sacred well, marking their ceremonial purification.

Following the elaborate bathing ritual, Lord Jagannath is believed to experience fever due to the extensive exposure to water. The temple transforms into an Ayurvedic healing chamber, where the deities are treated with traditional herbal medicines by the Daitapati servitors in the secluded Anasara chamber.

During this period, Lord Jagannath is dressed in white garments, and only white flowers are offered as part of the worship. The sacred Sri Anga Fita Niti ritual, where the deity’s attire is adjusted, is performed today. On Panchami, the Bada Odia Math will provide the traditional Phuluri oil, which is applied to the deity as part of the healing process.

Devotees believe that after this ritual, Lord Jagannath gradually regains strength, preparing for the grand Nabajouban Darshan before the Rath Yatra.
