Puri Jagannath Temple Now A Red Zone; Here's What You Shouldn't Do

Key Points

Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh on Saturday said that the Red Zone status will remain effective for three years, valid until September 25, 2028.

Puri, Oct 11: In a decisive move to enhance security around the Lord Jagannath temple in Puri, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has now declared the 12th-century shrine as a Red Zone.

Confirming the development, Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh on Saturday said that the Red Zone status will remain effective for three years, valid until September 25, 2028.

The senior police official further stated that following the request of Odisha Police, DGCA appointed nodal officers to survey the area.

Following their recommendation, the DGCA issued a notification on September 25, declaring the Shree Mandir and its surrounding area as a Red Zone.

Under this new classification, all unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including drones, are strictly prohibited from entering the airspace above and around the temple.

On violation, strict legal action will be taken against any unauthorised drone operations, said the Puri SP.

The official further stated that the move is part of a broader strategy to safeguard the temple and its surroundings from potential threats.

The temple area had earlier been designated as a No-Flying Zone to prevent aerial intrusions and ensure the safety of devotees and the sacred premises.

The senior official has urged the public to respect the new restrictions and cooperate with enforcement agencies to maintain the temple’s sanctity and security.

Here's What You Shouldn't Do Near the Temple:
- Do not fly drones or any aerial devices within the temple premises or surrounding areas.
- Do not attempt aerial photography or videography using UAVs, even for personal use.
- Do not breach security barriers or restricted zones marked by temple authorities.
- Do not ignore warnings or instructions issued by police or temple security personnel.
