Puri, Jul 9: A serious security lapse at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri has raised alarm after four youths reportedly entered the temple premises by scaling the Meghanada Pacheri, the outer boundary wall.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among devotees and authorities, especially given the temple’s high-security status during and after the annual Rath Yatra.
Following the broadcast of visuals showing some youths climbing the southern gate wall, the Chief Administrator of the temple has ordered an investigation and formed a four-member committee. The committee includes Development Administrator Debabrata Sahu, Security Administrator Hemanta Padhy, and sanitation supervisor representatives from PSIPL.

✨Initial findings suggest that the youths exploited a garbage heap near the wall to gain access, pointing to negligence in perimeter maintenance and surveillance. Temple servitors have blamed security personnel for the breach, citing lapses in vigilance. In response, the gate at the Meghanada Pacheri’s mesh entrance has been locked, and Executive Officer of the temple has conducted an on-site inspection.
To prevent further incidents, PSIPL has deployed JCBs and tractors to clear the accumulated garbage near the wall. The temple administration has assured that security protocols will be reviewed and reinforced immediately.
