Puri Gears Up for Snana Purnima: Sacred Bathing Ritual of Lord Jagannath

Puri, Jun 9: The sacred festival of Snana Purnima, marking the ceremonial bathing of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, is set to take place on Wednesday.
The deities will leave the Ratna Bedi and proceed to the Snana Mandap, where they will be bathed with 108 pitchers of fragrant water, a ritual symbolizing purification and renewal.
Ahead of the grand event, Daitapati servitors have entered the Shree Jagannath Temple on Monday to commence the traditional ritualistic preparations that will continue until the end of Rath Yatra.
On Snana Purnima night, the servitors will perform Senapata Lagi and Bahutakanta rituals, followed by the Pahandi procession, bringing the deities to the Snana Mandap.
Meanwhile, preparations for the world-famous Rath Yatra, scheduled for June 27, are in full swing. The second coordination meeting for Rath Yatra will be held at Puri Municipality Hall on Monday.
The meeting will be chaired by Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan. Officials from various departments will submit their action plan reports, ensuring a seamless execution of the festival.
Previously, the first Rath Yatra coordination meeting, chaired by the Central Revenue Commissioner (RDC), set strict deadlines for all administrative arrangements. Discussions in Monday’s meeting will focus on chariot construction, crowd management, security measures, and devotee convenience.
With lakhs of devotees expected to throng Puri, authorities are prioritizing law enforcement, orderly darshan, and ritual discipline. The administration is committed to ensuring a smooth and spiritually enriching experience for all pilgrims attending the grand festival.
