Puri, Jun 8: As Puri prepares for the grand Debasnana Purnima on June 11, the district administration has stepped up security and traffic arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe experience for lakhs of devotees expected to gather for the sacred bathing ritual of Lord Jagannath.

Recognised as a vital ceremony before the Rath Yatra, Debasnana Purnima sees the deities—Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—brought to the Snana Mandap and bathed in 108 pots of scented water, marking a deeply revered tradition for devotees.

To manage the crowds effectively, 70 platoons of police personnel, supported by 450 officers, including senior officials, will be strategically deployed across key locations. AI-enabled CCTV cameras will enhance surveillance, and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be stationed to address emergencies.

A full-scale mock drill has been conducted in collaboration with police, fire services, health departments, and temple authorities to test emergency response efficiency. The drill focused on real-time scenarios such as stampede control, medical emergencies, and fire incidents, ensuring seamless coordination among security agencies.

Authorities have also outlined evacuation strategies to handle unforeseen situations.

Snana Purnima is a holy bathing ceremony of Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra. It marks the beginning of the annual chariot festival or Rath Yatra, which is one of the most famous and grandest festivals in India.
