Bhubaneswar, July 19: In a significant development in the burn case of Balanga area in Odisha’s Puri district, the statement of the 15-year-old victim was officially recorded under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The process was conducted in the presence of Khordha Additional District Magistrate, Balanga police officials, and attending doctors.
The minor girl, who sustained 70–75% third-degree burns, remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with oxygen support, according to AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas.
Dr Biswas emphasized that the next 48 hours are vital for her survival, as doctors closely monitor her blood pressure and organ function.
A 14-member medical panel has been formed to oversee the victim’s care, and the State government is considering transferring her to AIIMS Delhi if her condition stabilizes.

The police have already detained several individuals and are working to identify the culprits based on forensic evidence and CCTV footage.
The incident, which occurred in Puri’s Balanga area, involved three unidentified assailants who allegedly abducted the girl and set her ablaze near a river embankment.
