Sundargarh, Apr 19: Tension ran high at Barkani village in Odisha's Sundargarh district during a protest over the construction of a new railway line following an unfortunate death of a youth.

According to reports, the conflict arose during the protests against the construction of a new railway line by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Villagers, opposing the project due to concerns over displacement and lack of rehabilitation, staged demonstrations to block the construction work. The situation took a tragic turn when a young protester was reportedly crushed by a JCB machine during the construction process.

This incident sparked outrage among the villagers, leading to an aggressive attack on the police force present at the site.

Following this, several police personnel and villagers sustained injuries.

Taking note of the incident, authorities rushed to the spot and later additional police forces were deployed in the area to prevent further violence.

On the other hand, district officials have assured a thorough investigation into the incident and appealed for peace.
