Bhubaneswar, Jul 16: Tension prevailed outside the Lok Seva Bhavan as opposition party staged a protest over the recent death of a student of Fakir Mohan (FM) Autonomous College, Balasore.

Accroding to reports, the protest began peacefully but escalated when protesters attempted to break through the first barricade near the government building.

Police forces responded with water cannons and released tear gas to control the crowd and prevent further escalation.

The protest was marked by slogans and strong public outrage, especially from youth wings and student leaders associated with the party.

Following face-off with police at Lower PMG, agitating activists were arrested.

Officials have yet to release a full statement regarding the protest or any injuries or detentions.
