Bhawanipatna, Sep 8: A tragic incident in Kalahandi district has claimed the lives of a mother and daughter after they came in contact with a live electric wire.

The incident occurred in Karlashoda village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police limits, sparking outrage among locals over alleged medical negligence and delayed ambulance services.

According to reports, Lalita Nayak was drying clothes when she accidentally touched an electric wire. Her daughter, Sheetal Nayak, rushed to save her but also came in contact with the wire.

Both collapsed on the spot. Villagers immediately alerted the ambulance service, but despite repeated calls, no vehicle arrived in time.

With no other option, family members transported the victims in an autorickshaw to the district medical facility. However, by the time they reached, both were declared dead. Locals alleged that even at the hospital, timely medical intervention was lacking, further fuelling anger.

Following the deaths, grieving relatives and villagers staged a protest by placing the bodies outside the Kalahandi Collector’s office, demanding strict action against those responsible for the delay and negligence.

They accused the ambulance service and medical staff of failing to respond promptly, which cost two lives.

Police from Bhawanipatna Town Station and local officials, including the tehsildar, rushed to the spot to pacify the agitated crowd and restore order.

The administration has assured a high-level inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Karlashoda village remains tense and grief-stricken, with demands for justice growing louder.
