Balasore, May 19: A massive fire broke out in the Baigan Badiya village of Jhadipipal Panchayat, under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district late last night, causing severe property damage worth lakhs of rupees.

The flames engulfed a paddy storage unit belonging to one Pankajini Dandapata, reducing the entire stock to ashes.

Upon noticing the fire, local residents rushed to control the blaze and informed the fire services department. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, most of the paddy had already burned completely. Tragically, two goats perished in the fire, while one cow narrowly survived with minor burns.

Following the incident, police reached the spot and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, as its origin remains unclear. The incident has left farmers and villagers distressed, highlighting the vulnerability of agricultural storage facilities to such disasters.
