Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: The Odisha government has set March 31 as the deadline for the procurement of paddy, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.

The Minister stated that 95% of paddy procurement has been completed and 71.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have been purchased so far.
The government has set a target of procuring 76 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. Meanwhile, planning for paddy procurement during the Rabi season is underway, the registration of which will start soon, said the Minister.
Earlier on March 8, the Minister reviewed various activities and programmes of the department at Lokseva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
In the meeting, Principal Secretary Singh apprised about various programmes and initiatives of the department. It was also discussed in detail how the process of paddy procurement can be streamlined further in the upcoming rabi season.
