Odisha Health Department intensifies efforts to tackle heatwave-related health issues with medical alerts and public advisories.
Bhubaneswar, Apr 22: As Odisha experiences severe heatwave conditions, over 50 individuals have reported falling ill due to the extreme temperatures and high humidity levels.
These individuals received preliminary medical treatment and have since been sent home, as confirmed by Nilakantha Mishra, the State Public Health Director.
The Odisha Health Department has issued directives to all medical facilities across the state to remain on high alert to address heat-related illnesses.
In preparation for potential cases of heatstroke, district-level hospitals have readied six specialised beds, while sub-divisional hospitals have arranged four beds each. Community Health Centres (CHCs) have also allocated two beds specifically for heatstroke patients.
In light of the scorching temperatures, the Health Department has advised citizens to avoid outdoor activities after 10 am unless absolutely necessary. The department’s proactive measures aim to prevent severe health emergencies during this heatwave period.
Fortunately, as of now, Odisha has not reported any fatalities or severe incidents due to heatstroke, according to Mishra’s statement. The Health Department’s readiness reflects a strong commitment to minimizing the risks posed by extreme heat.
