President Murmu To Attend Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Event In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: President Droupadi Murmu will attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event, which will be held in Bhubaneswar starting January 8.

President Murmu is scheduled to grace her presence on the concluding day of the event after arriving in the capital city of Odisha the previous day.

As per the itinerary, President Murmu will board an Indian Air Force flight at 3 pm from Guwahati Airport, January 9 (Thursday). She is scheduled to arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar at 4.35 pm. She will directly head to Raj Bhavan, where she will stay the night.

The next day, President of India will arrive at the Janata Maidan at around 11.40 am to attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event. She is also scheduled to hold a discussion meeting with the President of Trinidad & Tobago.

Later, President Murmu will attend the 'Pravasi Bharatiya Samman' award ceremony at 3 pm. After the completion of the programme, she is scheduled to take the return flight at 5.25 pm from the Bhubaneswar Airport.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas At A Glance

Overseas Indians from from 50 nations will be in the Temple City -- Bhubaneswar -- to celebrate the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. The event will be graced by the presence of President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, other Indian and Odisha political leaders as well as guests from foreign countries.

The 'Odisha Theme Pavilion' will be the main attraction for the delegates from different countries. The history, tradition, culture, natural beauty and industrial development of Odisha will be on display in this pavilion, which will play the role of a torchbearer of Odia culture and Odia asmita. The pavilion, built on an area of ​​400 square meters, has been named 'Glorious Odisha'.

Shree Jagannath culture, Kalinga War, Emperor Ashoka Mourya's transformation from vengeful emperor into a stable and peaceful emperor, the historic Bali Yatra, and many other things will be on display. In addition, the story Odisha will be presented in front of the Indian diaspora and the guests through a video.

Speaking about the event, CM Majhi, in a statement, said, "I see the possibility of changing the fortunes of Odisha in the opportunity of hosting the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas." He also appealed the people of Odisha to participate in the programme.

Around 3,000 enthusiastic overseas Indians have already prepared themselves to be a part of the celebrations. The government has plans to take them on tour to various places of Puri, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Jajpur.
