Rairangpur, Jun 20: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday formally inaugurated the newly created Rairangpur Police District in Mayurbhanj, marking a significant step towards strengthening policing and public service delivery in northern Odisha.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Rairangpur MLA Jalen Naik, Karanjia MLA Padma Charan Haiburu and Saraskana MLA Bhadav Hansda, among others.

Several senior administrative and police officials were also present at the event, including Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hemant Sharma, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Crime Branch DG Vinaytosh Mishra, Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra, Mayurbhanj SP Varun Guntupalli, Collector Hemakanta Say, Baripada Sub-Collector Kasturi Panda and Rairangpur SP Suresh Kumar Patra.
Created After Reorganisation of Mayurbhanj Police District
The Odisha government had reorganised the erstwhile Mayurbhanj Police District in August 2025 and created the Rairangpur Police District to improve policing efficiency and administrative reach in the region.

With Saturday's inauguration, the new police district has become fully operational. It comprises two police subdivisions and 14 police stations.
Officials said the new district is expected to ensure faster police response, improved law-and-order management and more accessible policing services for residents.

The creation of the Rairangpur Police District is expected to strengthen crime prevention, enhance emergency response capabilities and improve coordination between police and local communities.
