Rourkela, Apr 21: President Droupadi Murmu arrived at the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Odisha's Jharsuguda on Tuesday in a special aircraft and proceeded to Rourkela in an Indian Air Force helicopter for a day-long visit.
This marks her first visit to Rourkela after assuming office as the President of India. She was accorded a grand welcome at the airport by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, along with senior officials, the district administration, police authorities and other dignitaries.
As per the President’s itinerary, Murmu will inaugurate the Rourkela One Project at Civil Township, which includes an Integrated Command and Control Centre, a tribal museum, and an auditorium. She will also virtually inaugurate a mega recreational park at Koel Nagar and a planetarium at Chhend Colony.
During her visit, the President will meet representatives of various organisations at the Panposh Circuit House before departing at around 4:05pm this afternoon. Elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration and the Rourkela Municipal Corporation.
Cultural programmes will be held during the visit of the President, with participation expected from over one lakh people, including a large number of students from Sundargarh district in Odisha.

"Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place at the airport and across all venues in view of the President’s visit,” officials said.
Notably, Murmu had earlier visited Odisha in February on a six-day tour, covering districts including Jajpur, Balasore, Puri and Mayurbhanj, where she attended multiple official and cultural programmes.
