Balasore, May 2: Jaleswar witnessed a shocking incident where sub-inspector Sristidhar Behera and a female constable from the Jaleswar police station were attacked while responding to an unlawful extortion attempt.

According to reports, a group of young men attempted to extort money from a truck driver and his helper near Shantia on NH-60 while the vehicle was halted for a tea break. When the driver refused to pay, the suspects allegedly assaulted him.

Upon receiving a distress call via the police helpline (112), SI Sristidhar Behera and the female constable rushed to the scene to investigate. However, before they could intervene, the miscreants turned violent, assaulting the police personnel.

Following an alert, additional police forces arrived, rescuing the injured truck driver and officers. Four individuals suspected of involvement in the attack have been arrested.

Jaleswar police continue their investigation based on separate complaints filed by the driver and the woman constable.
