Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ambitious “Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana” on October 11 via video conferencing, marking a significant step toward agricultural transformation in India.

The launch will be accompanied by the foundation stone laying of two major projects in Odisha — a state-of-the-art wholesale fish market in Bhubaneswar and an integrated aqua park in Hirakud.

The announcement was made during a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, attended by agriculture ministers from across the country. Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo and Fisheries & Animal Resources Minister Gokulananda Mallik also participated in the preparatory session.

The Prime Minister will address the nation and interact with farmers during the event. The proceedings will be broadcast live across all Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Odisha, with the state government confirming that all arrangements are in their final stages.

The scheme aims to ensure food security, enhance nutritional access, and boost farmers’ income and productivity. Over 50 lakh farmers and producer groups are expected to benefit from this initiative. The government has reported record crop production this year compared to previous years, especially in pulses and oilseeds, aligning with the goal of self-reliance in agriculture.

Minister Chouhan emphasized the importance of becoming self-sufficient in key crops like lentils and oilseeds and urged farmers to adopt sustainable practices. The event also saw the presence of senior officials including Agriculture Secretary Dr. Arbinda Kumar Padhee and Director Shubham Saxena, along with top officers from the agriculture and fisheries departments.

This multi-pronged initiative reflects India’s commitment to empowering farmers, modernizing agriculture, and strengthening rural economies.
