Bhubaneswar, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded the BJP-led Odisha government for ushering in a new phase of progress under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Addressing a gathering in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district, to mark two years of the state government, Modi said Odisha was rapidly advancing on the path of development, with welfare schemes transforming lives across the state.
Purvodaya Vision
The Prime Minister emphasized the Centre’s policy of Purvodaya—the rise of eastern India—as a driver of national growth. “The eastern region, once reduced to a symbol of backwardness during the Congress era, is now emerging as a gateway to progress,” he said, adding that Odisha’s development would contribute significantly to India’s overall advancement.
Harnessing Odisha’s Potential
Highlighting Odisha’s vast coastline, mineral wealth, agricultural strength, and talented youth, Modi said coordinated efforts were bringing record investments in railway infrastructure, new roads, ports, and economic corridors. He noted that sectors such as energy, semiconductors, green energy, and modern industries were attracting major investments.

✨Mega Projects and Investments
During the programme, development projects worth nearly ₹47,600 crore were unveiled, covering electricity, roads, railways, healthcare, and education. Modi said investment proposals worth ₹20 lakh crore had been received under campaigns like Utkarsh Odisha, with mega projects worth over ₹3.5 lakh crore under implementation. “The double-engine government is transforming Odisha’s resources into opportunities,” he remarked.
Future Milestones
Modi pointed to two upcoming milestones: Odisha’s centenary in 2036 and India’s centenary of Independence in 2047. “A stronger Odisha will contribute to a stronger India. Together, we must take Odisha to new heights of development,” he said.
The Prime Minister also extended greetings to President Droupadi Murmu on her birthday, praising her journey from Mayurbhanj to the highest constitutional office in the country.
