Bhubaneswar, Jan 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended heartfelt greetings to the countrymen on Makar Sankranti and wished for prosperity and success for all.


Taking to X, PM Modi said, "Heartfelt wishes to all fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. May this divine moment, filled with the sweetness of sesame seeds and jaggery, rooted in Indian culture and traditions, bring joy, prosperity, and success to everyone's life. May Lord Surya bless us all."


Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion.


In his message, CM Majhi conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the people of Odisha, describing the festival as one filled with “enthusiasm, inspiration, and tradition.” He expressed hope that the great tradition of Makar Sankranti would further strengthen social unity and harmony in the state.

“May the blessings of Mahaprabhu keep the stream of the state's progress uninterrupted, and may every family be filled with joy and happiness,” Majhi tweeted.


Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also greeted citizens on Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, and other harvest festivals celebrated nationwide. He described the occasion as an expression of gratitude and harmony, rooted in cultural traditions that highlight India’s unity in diversity. “May the rays of sun fill every home and heart with health, happiness and prosperity,” Pradhan said in his message.


Makar Sankranti, marking the Sun’s transition into Capricorn, is observed with rituals, offerings, and community celebrations across Odisha and India, symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings.
