Berhampur, Nov 5: In a significant development in the murder case of advocate Pitabash Panda, the local court has granted a two-day police remand for all six accused. While the police had initially sought a seven-day remand, the court approved custody for two days.
The six accused include Kurupati Bhuyan, Uma Bishoyi, Malaya Bishoyi, Madan Dalai, Chintu Pradhan, and Yogendra Rout. On the previous night, police had already taken Kurupati and Uma into remand from jail. Today, the remaining four — Malaya, Madan, Chintu, and Yogendra — were also brought into police custody.
Kurupati Bhuyan has been identified as the main shooter who
allegedly fired at Pitabash Panda. He reportedly received ₹5 lakh from Uma
Bishoyi for executing the murder, with plans to collect the remaining amount
post-crime. His residence in Banthapalli village was allegedly used as a
planning hub.

Yogendra Rout, believed to be a student leader, was closely linked with Malaya and Uma Bishoyi. He allegedly played a key role in providing logistics and shelter to the accused. His house is also located in Banthapalli.
Uma Bishoyi, the alleged mastermind, is said to have orchestrated the murder plot after receiving a contract from Malaya Bishoyi and Madan Dalai. Initially, he had hired a shooter from Bihar, but when that plan failed, he turned to Kurupati and Chintu to carry out the killing.
Malaya Bishoyi, a BJD corporator, and Madan Dalai, a BJD leader, are believed to be the primary conspirators. Police sources had earlier indicated that both were involved in planning and financing the murder.
The investigation continues as police interrogate the
accused to uncover further details and motives behind the crime.
