Bhubaneswar, Apr 17: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has taken a significant step towards enhancing traffic management and road safety in the state.
In a landmark decision, the Chief Minister approved the creation of 2,000 new posts under the State Traffic and Road Safety Department. This bold move aims to streamline and strengthen the state’s traffic governance, positioning Odisha as a role model for other states.
The new roles include 70 posts at the state level and 1,930 posts at the district level. At the state level, designations such as one ADGP/IGP post, one DIG (Police), two SPs, four DSPs, six Inspectors, eight Sub-Inspectors, eight ASIs, 22 Constables, 10 Drivers, and various administrative roles, such as one Establishment Officer, one Section Officer, three ASOs and an identical number of Junior Assistants, have been established.
Meanwhile, district-level positions include five DSPs, 41 Inspectors, 83 Sub-Inspectors, 83 ASIs, 310 Havildars, and 1408 Constables, reflecting a comprehensive approach to reinforcing traffic management at all administrative levels.
This expansion is expected to improve road safety measures and ensure the smooth functioning of traffic systems across Odisha.
The Chief Minister expressed his optimism, stating that these efforts would make Odisha a pioneer in road safety and traffic management, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
By creating these posts, the government aims to establish stricter enforcement of traffic laws, promote public safety, and reduce accidents on state highways and roads.
The initiative also aligns with Odisha’s broader development vision, which focuses on infrastructure, public safety, and governance reforms.
