Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Odisha health department is keeping a close watch on the evolving COVID-19 situation in the state. As of yesterday, the total number of COVID-19 cases stood at 30, with 23 active cases, while seven individuals had recovered. Infected patients are currently receiving treatment at home.

Discussions have taken place between the central and state governments regarding necessary health measures. The Odisha health department is awaiting new guidelines from the Centre to adapt its response accordingly.

With the annual Rath Yatra festival approaching, health officials have issued advisories to prevent any potential COVID-19 spread. Dr. Amarendra Nath Mohanty, Director of Health Services, has urged individuals exhibiting COVID-like symptoms to avoid participating in the festival. He also advised elderly citizens and those suffering from pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease to opt for virtual viewing from home instead of attending the gathering in person.

Dr. Mohanty assured that there is no need for panic as the new COVID variant has shown a comparatively mild impact, and the infection rate in the state remains low. However, considering the large turnout expected for the Rath Yatra, precautionary measures will be prioritized. The health department is committed to ensuring an efficient healthcare system during the festivities, with various preventive steps being planned in consultation with ministers and officials.

As the state gears up for the grand event, authorities remain vigilant, focusing on maintaining a safe environment for devotees while tackling any health-related challenges that may arise.
